We live in a corrupted system. The way to tackle corruption is to first acknowledge it exists. Only then is it possible to come up with ways of dealing with it, but don't make the mistake of believing the system can or will uncorrupt itself.

Emergency Alerts

Hands up if you knew the UK Government has been working on an “Emergency Alert” system, that will send “an alert with advice about how to stay safe” from mobile phone masts to every “compatible” mobile phone and tablet in range. Anyone?

According to the Government website it is a “new service” that’s expected to launch in the summer of 2021. They will helpfully warn us “if there’s a danger to life nearby”. Apparently they conducted a test in East Suffolk on Tuesday 25th May 2021.

They do list the “reasons you might get an emergency alert” as follows…

  • severe flooding
  • fires
  • explosions
  • terrorist incidents
  • public health emergencies

I wonder what a “public health emergency” might entail? The website does tell you that you can opt out of emergency alerts, but only some of them, and not the “most important ones”. You cannot opt out by subject, only by the alleged seriousness. On the opt out page after explaining that, it commands…

you should keep emergency alerts switched on for your own safety.

More uncanny timing, where as we’re just supposed to be coming out of a (fictional) “public health emergency” that the Government has opportunistically used to trojan-horse in State power the likes of which have never been seen in modern Britain and is clearly more than reluctant to relinquish, we have a new taxpayer funded cattle-prod to herd us into our homes or nearest State Gulag at the drop of a hat.

The obvious question is what happens if too many people just ignore it? And by “too many” I mean anyone. Will the “advice” in the alerts become legally enforceable? Are we going to end up with the threat of fines or criminal proceedings for not obeying the alert messages? Reasonable questions that would almost certainly be answered with “we have no plans to…”, an answer that is almost always a total lie.
