We live in a corrupted system. The way to tackle corruption is to first acknowledge it exists. Only then is it possible to come up with ways of dealing with it, but don't make the mistake of believing the system can or will uncorrupt itself.

Big Brother Keeps You Safe

In the book 1984 by George Orwell, there are “telescreens” everywhere. Those telescreens have an image of “Big Brother” on them at any time they are not otherwise in use. Big Brother is meant to represent the State, in this case IngSoc the totalitarian Government of Oceania. The telescreens are two way, meaning they can and do surveil citizens and can also issue instructions/demands, ostensibly for their own good.

In not entirely unrelated news, “mysterious loudpeakers” have been installed on streets across the UK town of Doncaster as reported by the online Doncaster Free Press. Apparently signage everywhere warning everyone to stay apart and cover their faces to “keep safe” wasn’t enough. According to the article:

“The solar powered speakers have been installed around the town centre in Doncaster, and also a number of its local shopping centres, as part of a bid to find another way to tell people to keep a safe distance from each other during the pandemic.”

Yes, the European Regional Development Fund has kindly offered their financial assistance to pay for “Talking Signs” to demand “Keep your distance. Remember Hands, Face, Space” and “Shop local, Shop safe. Let’s Do it for Doncaster” of people who are audaciously going about their daily lives.

Please remember, it’s all for your own good because Big Brother loves you.
